טיפול פליאטיבי בישראל – פנינו לאן?

מערכות בריאות הציבור עברו מהתמודדות במחלות מדבקות ותמותה לאחר אירועים חדים (acute), להתמודדות במחלות שאינן מדבקות (noncommunicable disease) ותמותה לאחר התמודדות ארוכה עם מחלה כרונית. כך נולד הצורך בגישה חדשה (פליאטיבית) הבאה להגדיר מחדש את תחומי ההתמודדות של בריאות הציבור, כך שטיפול פליאטיבי יהווה חלק אינטגרלי של מערכת הבריאות. טיפול פליאטיבי הוא גישה טיפולית המדגישה את שפור איכות החיים של חולים ובני משפחתם המתמודדים עם מחלות כרוניות, מורכבות חמורות המגבילות את התפקוד ואת תוחלת החיים. כל זאת על ידי מניעה, זיהוי מוקדם, הערכה וטיפול בסבל גופני, נפשי ורוחני, תוך התחשבות בהעדפותיו הטיפוליות ובערכיו של החולה ומשפחתו. גישה זו אינה במקום השגת היעד לריפוי או לעיכוב התקדמות המחלה, אשר ניתן ליישמם במקביל להענקת טיפול פליאטיבי.
